Eaton Canyon, 2023-2024
I'm in the process of restoring Laura Parker's painting: "Eaton Canyon #2: Second Grove". It was pulled from the remains of her completely burned home at the edge of Eaton Canyon. The original plywood backing burned off, so I've remounted the permanently curved concrete surface to new plywood. The steel sign post (which I salvaged from a decommissioned sign in Eaton Canyon before the fires) bent in the heat, so I made an attachment at the top which compensates for the curve and holds the painting level. The steel post and concrete block have been sanded and sealed, but still contain blobs of melted glass. Now I'm deciding whether to repaint the image. I think it could be nice to bring it back just a little bit - maybe 25%.
