Christianity's First Atheist, Sermon
2020
My first sermon was written and delivered to a church congregation over Zoom, during the second month of the pandemic shutdown. It was my first time describing myself as a "Christian Atheist", and how that works. I don't personally believe in a supernatural God, the resurrection of Jesus, or miracles. But I grew up in the Southern Baptist / Evangelical tradition, and I can't stop interpreting the world through that lens. My proposal is that Christianity is, at best, a script for reimagining our human relationships - synonymous with the Jewish tradition from whence it derived. At worst, it is White Christian Nationalism.
